Notes

Keep personal notes per project or for all projects, and edit CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, README.md and repo docs in one Markdown editor.

The Notes view holds two kinds of notes. Your own notes stay on your machine, outside the repo. The instructions and docs from the repo, like CLAUDE.md or README.md, open in the same editor so you can change them in place.

Open Notes

Press ⌘4 (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+4).

Write your own notes

  1. Open My notes.
  2. Choose This project for notes about the current project, or All projects for notes you want everywhere.
  3. Write in Markdown.

These notes are stored on your machine, in Kanbell's data folder. They never go into the repo.

Edit the repo's instructions and docs

Instructions and Docs list these files from the repo:

  • CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md and README.md
  • .claude/rules
  • docs/**

Open a file and edit it in place. Your changes are written to the file in the repo. Each file can be 1 MB at most.

Use the editor

  • The editor renders Markdown live as you type.
  • Type "/" to open the insert menu.
  • Open the Outline to see the structure of the note.
  • Switch to Raw Source to see the plain Markdown.
  • Search inside the note.
  • Press ⌘E (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+R) to switch between preview and edit.
  • Use Move to Trash to remove a note.

Good to know

  • My notes stay out of Git, so they never show up in a diff.
  • Files from Instructions and Docs are real repo files. Your edits show up in the Changes tab, like any other change.
