2. What Kanbell is

Kanbell is a desktop app, today for Macs with Apple silicon; Windows and Linux versions are in the works. It is a workspace where you run your own command-line coding agents, such as Claude Code, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI, in terminals, next to a task board (local, or linked to GitHub Issues), git tools and notes.

Kanbell does not include any AI model or agent subscription. You install your agents yourself and use them with your own accounts, under their providers’ terms. There is no Kanbell account and no Kanbell server.

3. Your license

While your free trial or your subscription is active, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Kanbell on Macs you own or control, within the device limit below. You may use it for your own work, including professional work.

Kanbell is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights that these terms do not expressly grant you.

4. Free trial

You can try Kanbell for 7 days from its first launch on your Mac. The trial needs no payment details and no license key. Its state is kept on your Mac only.

When the trial ends, Kanbell stops launching new agent sessions until you enter a license key. Your projects, boards, notes and other data stay on your Mac and remain accessible.

5. Subscription, payment and refunds

A subscription costs CHF 12 per month or CHF 96 per year, or a rounded equivalent in USD, EUR, or GBP. The price that applies is the one shown at checkout, in the currency you pay in.

Polar is the seller. Subscriptions are sold by Polar Software, Inc. (“Polar”), which acts as merchant of record. Polar’s Buyer Terms say: “You purchase the Product from Polar, but your rights to use the Product are licensed to you by the Supplier”. The purchase itself is a contract between you and Polar under those Buyer Terms; your right to use Kanbell is governed by these terms. Polar collects the payment, charges applicable taxes (its Buyer Terms say they are based on the billing address of the transaction or other applicable nexus rules) and sends invoices and receipts electronically, including by email. See also Polar’s merchant of record overview.

Renewal. According to Polar’s Buyer Terms, subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and Polar notifies you in advance if the price of a subscription increases.

Cancellation. You can cancel at any time through Polar’s self-serve cancellation flow (your Polar customer portal) or by contacting Polar. Polar’s Buyer Terms state that cancellation takes effect at the next billing cycle. Your license stays valid until the end of the period you have paid for.

Refunds. Refunds are handled by Polar. Its Buyer Terms say that refunds “are evaluated consistent with applicable law, the applicable refund policy and the card network rules”, and that, “except as required by law or where the Product has not been provided, fees for elapsed billing periods are non-refundable.” To ask for a refund, contact Polar, or write to us and we will pass your request on.

Consumer rights. If you buy as a consumer, the law of your country may give you rights for online purchases, such as a right of withdrawal. Nothing in these terms limits them, and Polar’s Buyer Terms state that they do “not limit any non-waivable consumer rights or remedies.”

Where Polar’s Buyer Terms and these terms differ on payment, billing, cancellation or refunds, Polar’s Buyer Terms apply to those points.

6. License key and devices

After you subscribe, you receive a license key. One subscription can be active on up to 3 Macs at a time. Each Mac where you activate the key uses one of the 3 activations. To free one, deactivate the key on that Mac in Settings › License.

While a key is active, Kanbell checks it with Polar at launch and every 24 hours. If it cannot reach Polar, it keeps working for up to 14 days after the last successful check.

The key is for you. Do not share it with other people.

7. Updates

We may release updates that fix bugs, improve security or change features. Kanbell checks for new versions automatically and downloads them (see the Privacy Policy). Your subscription includes the updates released while it is active.

Features may change over time. Agents, git, GitHub and macOS change independently of us: we cannot promise that Kanbell will work with every version of them.

8. You are responsible for what your agents do

Kanbell starts the agents you choose, in terminals on your Mac, with your accounts and the permissions you give them. It does not control, check or correct what they produce or do.

Depending on how you configure them, agents can modify, delete or commit code, run commands, install software, and publish to GitHub (issues, comments, pushes). Actions you take on GitHub from Kanbell’s board use your own GitHub token, on your behalf.

You are responsible for:

  • what you ask your agents to do and the permissions you grant them;
  • reviewing their changes before you rely on, merge, push, publish or deploy them;
  • keeping backups and version control of your work.

The status, usage and other information Kanbell shows about your agents comes from the agents’ own files and may be incomplete or late. Do not rely on it as a safeguard.

9. Third-party services

Your coding agents (for example Claude Code, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI), GitHub and Polar are services of other companies. Each is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, for example GitHub’s Terms of Service and Polar’s Buyer Terms. You need your own accounts with them. We are not responsible for their availability, prices, changes or content.

Claude Code is a trademark of Anthropic. Codex is a trademark of OpenAI. Gemini is a trademark of Google LLC. GitHub is a trademark of GitHub, Inc. Kanbell is not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or GitHub.

10. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • share, sell or publish your license key, or use it on more Macs than your subscription allows;
  • bypass, disable or tamper with the license, the activation limit or the trial, including resetting the trial;
  • copy, modify, decompile or reverse engineer Kanbell, except where mandatory law allows it;
  • resell, rent, sublicense or distribute Kanbell;
  • use Kanbell to break the law or the terms of the services you use with it, including your agents’ providers and GitHub.

11. Intellectual property

Kanbell, its software, design, name and logo belong to us or our licensors.

Your code, prompts, boards, notes and other content remain yours. These terms give us no rights to them, and we do not receive them: they stay on your Mac, or go to the services you choose (your agents’ providers, GitHub). Rights in what your agents produce are governed by the law and by your agreements with their providers; we claim none.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

12. Ending your use

You can stop at any time: cancel your subscription with Polar, deactivate your key and delete the app. The Privacy Policy explains how to remove everything Kanbell stored on your Mac.

If you seriously breach these terms, for example by sharing your key, we may end your license and revoke your key. When your license ends, Kanbell stops launching agent sessions. Your data stays on your Mac.

13. No warranty

Kanbell is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we give no warranty, express or implied, that it will be free of errors, work without interruption, work with every agent, tool or version, or suit a particular purpose. This does not affect warranty rights that mandatory law gives you.

14. Limitation of liability

We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence: under Swiss law, this liability cannot be excluded in advance (art. 100 of the Swiss Code of Obligations). The same applies to any other liability that mandatory law does not allow us to limit.

Otherwise, to the extent permitted by law:

  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage, lost profits, or lost or corrupted data or code;
  • we are not liable for what your coding agents or third-party services do, including changes they make to your files, repositories or accounts;
  • our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Kanbell in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.

15. Consumer rights

If you use Kanbell as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live. Nothing in these terms limits it. Where a clause of these terms conflicts with such a law, the law prevails.

16. Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

The courts at our place of residence in Switzerland have jurisdiction. This does not apply where mandatory rules give consumers the right to bring or defend proceedings in the courts of the place where they live.

17. General

If a provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remains in force. Not enforcing a provision does not waive it.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The new version is published on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If you already have a subscription, a change that is to your disadvantage applies from your next renewal after its publication; if you do not agree with it, you can cancel before then.
