Let your agent install it

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI. It installs Kanbell, checks your setup and explains what the app does.

Install Kanbell on this machine, then explain to me what it does.

Kanbell is a desktop app for running several terminal coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI) side by side: one terminal per agent, grouped under its project, a task board per project, and a signal the moment an agent waits for an answer. No account, no server: everything stays on this machine.

1. Detect the OS and the CPU.
   - macOS on Apple Silicon: download https://github.com/0x2e73/kanbell-releases/releases/latest/download/Kanbell.dmg, mount it, copy Kanbell.app to /Applications, eject the image, then open the app.
   - Ubuntu or Debian (amd64 or arm64): run `dpkg --print-architecture`, download kanbell_1.5.0_<arch>.deb and SHA256SUMS-linux from https://github.com/0x2e73/kanbell-releases/releases/tag/v1.5.0-linux, check it with `sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS-linux`, then `sudo apt install ./kanbell_1.5.0_<arch>.deb`.
   - Anything else (Windows, Intel Mac…): stop and tell me Kanbell doesn't run there yet.
2. Check that git 2.45 or later is installed, and tell me which agents (claude, codex, gemini) are on the PATH.
3. Explain in 5 short points what Kanbell does and how to start: add a project folder, start an agent, answer it when it waits.

Kanbell is a desktop app that runs terminal coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI) side by side, one terminal per agent, sorted by project. It tells you the moment an agent waits for you, and gives each project a task board.

You need:

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon (Intel Macs are not supported), or Linux with Ubuntu or Debian (amd64 or arm64).
  • Claude Code 2.1.80 or newer. Codex CLI 0.150.0 and Gemini CLI 0.39.0 or newer if you use them.
  • Git 2.45 or newer, for the Git panel.
  • zsh, bash or fish as your login shell, for personas, teams and guided sessions.

Install on a Mac

  1. Download Kanbell.dmg.
  2. Open it and drag Kanbell to Applications.
  3. Open Kanbell from Applications. It must run from a writable place like /Applications to update itself.

On Ubuntu or Debian, follow Install on Linux.

First launch

The sidebar is empty and shows Add your first project. Your 7-day free trial starts automatically. No card, no account.

If Claude Code or Git is missing or too old, Kanbell shows a warning with Install, Copy brew install git and Recheck.

Add your first project

  1. Click Choose Folder… and pick a folder with your code.
  2. Or pick "or start from scratch with Claude". Kanbell creates the folder, runs git init and starts a guided Claude session. It writes README.md, CLAUDE.md, .claude/agents/* and proposes tasks. You confirm the tasks before they go to the local board.
  3. The card Three ready-to-use profiles offers Dev, Reviewer (cannot edit files) and Business (no edit tools, no Bash). Tick For this project only to keep them in this project. Click Create Profiles, or Skip.

Add more projects later with New Project… ⌘O (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+A).

Start your first agent

  1. Click Start {profile} in the empty sessions pane.
  2. Or press ⌘T (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+T) to open a tab with the default "Claude" profile.

Each tab is a real terminal. See Sessions and terminals.

Answer it when it waits

  1. When an agent needs you, a system notification appears. It never shows for the session you are looking at.
  2. Click the menu bar icon to open the panel. It lists the sessions that wait for you. You can answer some Claude Code questions right there.
  3. Press ⌘⇧J (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+J) to jump to the next session that needs you.

Details in Answer your agents.

Give it a task

  1. Open Board with ⌘2 (Linux: Ctrl+Shift+2).
  2. Click Use Local Board.
  3. Click New Task and write a title and a description.
  4. Click Start Agent (⌘⏎, Linux: Ctrl+Enter) and choose a profile and a folder.
  5. The task is pasted into the agent's input, not sent. Read it and press Enter.

More in Task board.

Let your agent install Kanbell

The Ask your agent button on the Kanbell website shows a prompt. Click Copy prompt and paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI. Your agent installs Kanbell, checks your setup and explains what the app does.
