Kanbell vs T3 Code: what's the difference?
T3 Code and Kanbell both put many coding agents in one window, but they don't drive them the same way. T3 Code, by Ping, is a free, open-source app that runs your agents behind a conversation view, on your computer or on any other machine you reach from its desktop, web or phone apps. Kanbell runs each agent's own command-line tool in a real terminal, sorted by project, with the state of every session, a menu bar panel for the agents waiting on you, and a task board, with no account and no Kanbell server.
T3 Code facts come from t3.codes, its GitHub repository (README and user docs) and its v0.1.7 release, checked on November 7, 2026. Its README says the project is very early.
Side by side
| T3 Code | Kanbell | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Desktop, web and mobile app plus a t3 command; "the open-source control plane for coding agents" |
Desktop app |
| Agents | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, Kiro, OpenCode, Antigravity, Pi, Muse Code, fx; shown as conversations, Claude through Anthropic's Agent SDK, Codex through its App Server | Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, run in their own terminal; other commands as custom profiles, without tracking |
| Organization | Projects and threads in a sidebar, a conversation per thread, a built-in terminal | Projects in a sidebar tree, sessions under each, real terminals in tabs and panes |
| Isolation | Optional new worktree per thread, with cleanup settings; diff pane, pull requests from the app | None: agents work in the folder you choose; read-only Git panel |
| Waiting agents | Approvals in the conversation; a thread goes back to the top of the list when it finishes, fails or needs an answer (beta); phone notifications through T3 Connect | Session state, notification, menu bar panel with questions and permissions, ⌘⇧J |
| Tasks | Task board not documented; clones, pull requests and reviews with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, Gitea, Forgejo, GitCafe | Board per project: local, GitHub or GitLab |
| Remote | Any provider on another machine: T3 Connect, local network, Tailscale, or SSH from the desktop app (Linux or Apple Silicon host) | Claude Code on a Linux machine over SSH, in tmux |
| Platforms | macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows, Linux (.deb, AppImage, AUR, Nix); web app; iOS and Android | macOS (Apple Silicon), Linux (.deb) |
| Account | None for local use, LAN, Tailscale or SSH; a T3 Connect sign-in for its relay and phone push notifications | None, no Kanbell server |
| License | MIT, open source | Proprietary |

Where T3 Code is better
- Free and open source. MIT license, and its FAQ says there is no way to pay for it. You can read the code and fork it. Kanbell is paid after 7 days and its code is not public.
- More agents. Ten providers, including Cursor, OpenCode and Antigravity, against Kanbell's three tracked agents.
- Windows, web and phones. T3 Code runs on Windows, in a browser at app.t3.codes, and on iOS and Android. Kanbell has none of these yet.
- Remote for every agent. Run its server on a desktop, a server or a VPS and drive it from your other devices, through T3 Connect, your local network, Tailscale or SSH. Kanbell's remote sessions are Claude Code only, on Linux, in tmux.
- Worktrees and pull requests. A thread can get its own worktree, with optional automatic cleanup, and T3 Code creates and reviews pull requests on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and others. Kanbell doesn't manage worktrees and its Git panel is read-only.
Where Kanbell is different
- The agent's own tool in a real terminal. Kanbell runs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI themselves, in terminals, tabs and split panes, sorted by project. T3 Code drives Claude through Anthropic's Agent SDK rather than running the Claude Code CLI.
- A menu bar panel. The agents waiting for you are listed in the menu bar with their questions and permission requests, and
⌘⇧Jjumps to the next one. See answer your agents. - A task board per project. Local, or synced with GitHub Issues or GitLab, self-hosted GitLab included. See connect GitHub and GitLab.
- No account, no relay server. Kanbell talks to your agents locally, and its remote sessions go over SSH with a reverse tunnel back to your Mac; see data and privacy.
- Files beside the terminals. A file tree with previews and text editing next to the terminals.
Which one to choose
- You want a free, open-source tool, use Windows, a browser or your phone, mix many providers, or run agents on several machines: T3 Code.
- You mainly use Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI on a Mac or Linux and want their own terminals, a menu bar panel, a task board and no account: Kanbell.
For the other options, see which app to manage several coding agents.
FAQ
Is T3 Code free?
Yes. Its FAQ says there is no way to pay for it and that it is free and open source under the MIT license; you pay your agent provider as usual. T3 Connect, its remote service, is free for now, for up to 3 machines. Kanbell has a 7-day free trial, then CHF 12 a month or CHF 96 a year.
Which one supports more agents?
T3 Code. Its install guide lists Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, Kiro, OpenCode, Antigravity, Pi, Muse Code and fx. Kanbell has profiles for Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI, and runs other commands without tracking.
Do they work on Windows?
T3 Code does, per its FAQ and its release downloads. Kanbell runs on macOS with Apple Silicon and on Linux; there is no Windows build yet.
Do I need an account?
Kanbell needs no account and has no server. T3 Code needs no account for local use, LAN, Tailscale or SSH; its T3 Connect relay and phone notifications need a sign-in. Its FAQ says your code and prompts go to your provider, not to T3 servers, and that it sends basic usage events you can turn off.
