Kanbell vs Superset (now Paradev): what's the difference?

Superset is now called Paradev. Paradev is an open-source (MIT) desktop workspace where each task gets its own git worktree and branch, with diff review, an in-app browser per worktree and a free plan. Kanbell is a paid desktop app that runs your agents in real terminals sorted by project, shows the state of every session, lists waiting agents in a menu bar panel and gives each project a task board. Paradev is built around isolating and reviewing tasks; Kanbell is built around keeping track of many live sessions.

Paradev facts come from superset.sh, its pricing page and its GitHub repository, checked on November 5, 2026 (latest desktop release 2.0.5).

Where Paradev is better

  • Open source. MIT, so you can inspect, modify and self-host it.
  • Free to keep using. The free plan has no time limit. Kanbell is free for 7 days.
  • Isolation and review. A worktree per task, a diff viewer and a merge flow. Kanbell leaves isolation and commits to you and your agents.
  • In-app browser. Preview each worktree's dev server without leaving the app.
  • Intel Macs, teams and cloud. Paradev ships an Intel build, has team plans, and offers cloud workspaces from the Team plan.
  • Scripting. A CLI, a TypeScript SDK and an MCP server drive workspaces from scripts or other agents.

Where Kanbell is different

  • Real terminals by project. Sessions sit under their project in a sidebar tree, each with its state: working, waiting, or waiting for you.
  • A menu bar panel. Agents waiting for you are listed in the menu bar with their questions and permission requests. See answer your agents.
  • A task board per project, local or synced with GitHub Issues or GitLab. See task board.
  • Linux as a regular build. A .deb for Ubuntu and Debian, on amd64 and arm64. See install on Linux.
  • No Kanbell account or server. Remote sessions go over your own SSH, with no extra plan. See remote machines.

Which one to choose

  • You want each task on its own branch, reviewed and merged from one app, or you need open source: Paradev.
  • You run several projects at once, want plain terminals and need to see at a glance which agent is waiting: Kanbell.

For the other options, see which app to manage several coding agents.

FAQ

Is Superset the same as Paradev?

Yes. Superset's site and GitHub repository now say Paradev (formerly Superset). It is unrelated to Apache Superset, the business-intelligence tool.

Is Paradev free?

It has a free plan for one user with local workspaces, the desktop app and the CLI. Pro costs $20 per user per month, or $16 billed yearly. Kanbell has a 7-day trial, then CHF 12 a month or CHF 96 a year.

Is Paradev open source?

Yes, under the MIT License, per its site and repository. Kanbell is not open source.

Does Kanbell have an in-app browser or diff review like Paradev?

No in-app browser. Kanbell shows diffs, status and history in a read-only Git panel, without comments or a merge flow.
