Which app can I use to manage several coding agents (Claude Code, Codex) without dozens of open terminals?

If you only run Claude Code, start with its built-in agent view: claude agents lists every background session and puts the ones waiting for you on top. If you only run Codex, the ChatGPT desktop app runs Codex chats in parallel worktrees. To mix agents in one place, you have two families: a terminal tool (tmux, with Claude Squad on top) or a desktop app (AgentsRoom, Paradev, which was called Superset until recently, or Kanbell).

tmux and worktrees

tmux puts all your agents in one terminal window and keeps them running when you close it. Pair it with one git worktree per agent so they don't edit the same files. It's free and works with every CLI agent. You track who is waiting yourself. See do I need tmux for Claude Code.

Claude Code agent view

Agent view, opened with claude agents, is one screen for all your background Claude Code sessions: what's running, what needs your input, what's done. You dispatch a task as a new row, peek at its last output, reply without leaving the list, or attach to the full conversation. Sessions keep running without a terminal attached. It's a research preview and shows Claude Code sessions only.

The ChatGPT desktop app, for Codex

OpenAI's docs now present the Codex app inside the ChatGPT desktop app. It runs several Codex chats in the same project with worktrees, has an Activity view of chats that are running or waiting for you, and notifies you on completion, permission requests and questions. It's included in ChatGPT plans, Free included, per the pricing page. It runs Codex, not Claude Code.

Claude Squad

Claude Squad is a terminal app: one window, a menu to create, attach, pause and resume sessions, and a diff tab. It uses tmux for sessions and git worktrees so each task has its own branch. The default program is claude; cs -p "codex" or cs -p "gemini" runs another agent. Free and open source (AGPL-3.0).

AgentsRoom

AgentsRoom is a desktop app that runs the CLIs you already have, each agent with a provider, a role and a model, across several projects. It gives each ticket or agent its own worktree, imports GitHub issues, connects to servers over SSH, and has iOS and Android companion apps. Free for 2 projects and 6 agents in parallel; Pro is €7.99 a month.

Paradev, formerly Superset

Superset is now called Paradev. It's a desktop workspace where each task gets its own worktree and branch, with diff review, an in-app browser per worktree, completion chimes and dock badges. The source is MIT. The free plan covers one user and local workspaces; paid plans add remote access, automations, Linear and Slack, mobile, and cloud workspaces.

How to choose

  • One vendor only? Try its own tool first: agent view for Claude Code, the ChatGPT desktop app for Codex.
  • Want to stay in the terminal? tmux, or Claude Squad on top of it.
  • Want each task isolated and merged from the app? Claude Squad, AgentsRoom, Paradev and the Codex app all manage worktrees. Kanbell doesn't.
  • Need Windows? AgentsRoom or the ChatGPT desktop app.
  • Need a phone app? AgentsRoom, Paradev (Pro) or ChatGPT for Codex.

What Kanbell does

Kanbell is a desktop app for macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux (.deb). It runs your agents in real terminals, sorted by project in a sidebar tree, and shows the state of each session: working, waiting, or waiting for you.

  • Waiting agents come to you. A notification, and a menu bar panel that lists the agents waiting for you with their questions and permission requests. ⌘⇧J jumps to the next one. See answer your agents.
  • A task board per project. Local, GitHub Issues or GitLab. See task board.
  • Beside the terminals. A read-only Git panel, files in tabs, and a project-wide search (⌘⇧F).
  • Remote machines. Since 1.5.3, Claude Code sessions on a Linux machine over SSH, inside tmux. See remote machines.
  • No account and no Kanbell server. Your code stays on your machine.

What it doesn't do: no worktree management or merge flow, no Windows build yet, no mobile app, and it's a paid app after a 7-day trial (CHF 12 a month or CHF 96 a year).

FAQ

Is there a free way to manage several Claude Code agents?

Yes. Claude Code's agent view (claude agents) is built in and lists every background session with the ones waiting for you on top. tmux and Claude Squad (AGPL-3.0) are free too.

Which apps run Claude Code and Codex in the same window?

As of November 2026, per their own pages: Claude Squad, AgentsRoom, Paradev (formerly Superset) and Kanbell all run both. Claude Code's agent view shows Claude sessions only, and the ChatGPT desktop app runs Codex.

Which of these tools work on Windows?

Per their pages: AgentsRoom and the ChatGPT desktop app run on Windows, and Claude Squad ships Windows builds but needs tmux, through WSL for example. Paradev and Kanbell have no Windows version yet.

Which one tells me when an agent is waiting for me?

Claude Code's agent view groups sessions that need input. The ChatGPT desktop app, AgentsRoom, Paradev and Kanbell all notify you. Kanbell also lists waiting agents, with their questions and permission requests, in a menu bar panel.
